Sharkey's Bar

Sharkeys Bar

This traditional Irish Pub in the heart of the Donegal Gaeltacht is the ideal place to hear the Irish language spoken. Sharkeys is a favourite meeting place for visitors and locals alike, where there is always a yarn or two to be heard. It is also known in the area as 'a good football pub', and there is generally a full house when live matches, Gaelic or soccer, are shown on T.V.

The Pub was first opened by Margaret Sharkey, the great-grandmother of Michael and Joe, the present owners. It has been in the Sharkey family since the late 1800s. The interior walls are decorated with photographs dating back to the earlier part of the last century. Many of these pictures are snapshots of local events, and were taken by the present owners' great uncle, John Sharkey.
